Rod storage ideas

Anyone have any good ideas for rod hanger or mounts for the garage? I’m making a real attempt to keep my garage more organized. Thanks!

Here’s what I did.

The garage door holders will hold 2 rods per hook, so since that pic was taken, I’ve got 10 rods on the garage door. All 7’-7’ 6" rods with Abu Garcia reels.

In my shed, I have a setup similar to grtlakes. Only differences, a lot more combos, I used brass and/or plastic coffee cup holders screwed into the bottom of the board that the rod tips hang under, and let the rod handles sit on top of a suspended board next to the wall. You might need to drill pilot holes for the hangers if the wood you’re using is tough. I try to group rods for different species in sections and have baits/tackle already tied on and ready to fish. Makes it easier to find what I’m looking for when I’m in a hurry to go fishing after work.

Using a similar set up shown by Grtlakes ; My son made his rod storage but doubled the capacity by alternating reel to tip. Only need to allow for total rod length when alternated :sunglasses:

The creative juices are flowing. Thanks everyone. This project has been postponed to replace a wax ring on a toilet unfortunately.

I did this. Built a box, cut holes and cut PVC different diameters. Easy to get in and out when loading and unloading the boat.

Build a rod room or closet. Something that is lockable! Pocket doors are inexpensive and don’t take up much room! PVC pipe and screws make great rod holders. Make sure to space them correctly… I wish I had spaced mine one inch more.

And the winner is, Island Boy! Wish I had space for something like that, but I think most of us are trying not to use precious floor footage.

I screwed a couple of 2x4’s on the ceiling and used plumbing hooks. Just cut them at the length you need and screw to 2x4. Easy. Cheap. Effective.

I just did this,

SAFMC you suck!

Good God, you guys are way outta my league. I’m trying to store like 4 rods. Those are some impressive quivers.

Some nice ideas, I had a plan but now I’m thinking again.

Good Grief. It is good to see that I am not the only person with a serious problem!

My setup is like grtlakes, except it is on the wall between posts.

…sorry, can’t get the picture to show up the correct way. Will send it when I figure it out…

My dad made a frame one close to that one and then tied it to a pulley system so he could lower it when ever he wanted take a rod down or put one back. It was really cool and out of the way. he doesn’t use it anymore but I have attached the picture of the pulley system.

Grand Slam…What!!! Do you mean at Denny’s! Man do I love pancakes!

Here is pic of my rod holders.
Hope this works.
First time posting a pic.
Consists of scrap pieces of PVC, sand & spray painted black screwed to a 2x6 and the 2x6 mounted to the wall. Works well for my situation.
As my collection has grown, I plan to add another row of holders attached to the first row.

Find the vertical studs on each side of your garage. Drill small hole into stud on each side of garage. Screw a medium size cup hook into drilled hole and torque the cup hook down good and tight. Get some vinyl covered clothes line or small cable. Snugly attach the cable to one of the hook eyes. Get a medium sized adjustable turnbuckle, hook the turnbuckle to the eye of the cup hook, Attach cable to other end of turnbuckle pull as tight as possible and tie to turnbuckle. Tighten turnbuckle accordingly to tighten cable. Attach the same hardware about 6 ft. from the installed set.
Make sure the garage door will clear the rods when opening and closing. I came down about a foot from the ceiling when installing cup hooks. Make sure the turnbuckle is screwed all the way in so you can turn it to get the cable good and tight. You can probably pull the eye bolt out of the wall if you torque too much. I have about 30 rod and reels on mine. Rotate the rods and reels so all of the weight isn’t on one cable. They don’t get as dirty if stored this way. Tight cables.

You can also hang them over the top of the garage door. Then when the door is open they are out of sight of drifters.
