What’s a good rod for reds and trout? 3000 reel. I’ve been fishing a Finor power light 7"6" with a finor es 500 reel. Been happy with it. I bought a new evercast 3000 and am just throwing it on the power light for now.
I use Wright and McGill 7’9" med/heavy with a 3000 and love it. Sturdy enough for bigger reds, with enough flex to really whip the bait out there.
Take your reel and go to Haddrell’s Point and try it on some different rods and see what you like best !
As for the W&M rods I’ve got 3 broken in half to say otherwise . They felt good fishing with them but always felt they were lacking a little backbone when I first got them .

The best spinning rod for the money I have found is the Calico Jack made by Hurricane (South Bend) in 7 ft. and 7’6". They make med. lt., med., and med hvy. Med. Lt. is great for 8-15 lb braid for trout and reds. Medium and medium hvy are a little stiff for trout, but will WHIP any sized creek reds with 15-30 braid. Cost is around 50 bucks. Dick’s has them. I have them paired with Saros and Stradics (2500s-3000s). Can’t beat them for the money.
Will look raddaddy!

It also depends what you wanna do with it. If your looking to bait soak around docks then a ugly stik or shimano compre or clarus is fine. If you wanna throw lures be working and tossing that rod a lot you want a light rod that feels good in your hands. Either a 7 or 7’6". Look at the st croix stuff like mojo series or star stellar kites. About $100 a piece. Good stuff

I bought a St Croix Mojo Inshore rod this summer and love it. I have also been looking at the TFO Signature Saltwater Series rod. Sweet feeling rod for the price.

St. Croix is the way to go! Tidemaster or Premier!

Agree with Raddaddy on the Calico Jacks. Heard even better on Hurricane’s next step up Redbone but don’t have one. Don’t seem to be at Chas. Angler or Haddrells so if you can’t buy local and have to go through Dicks, might as well go on line. I think Boater Barn had them for $37 but you have to buy alot to overcome shipping. Might get a “cheap” rod just to use while you try out others. Did that with the Shimano Sojourn and ended up keeping it -plus getting a couple more in each size from both Chas. A. and Haddrells. They’re in the $30 range but have held up and perform well enough that it’s tough to justify spending more.
I’ve been using Penn Legion rods now for a while and they seem to be legit. Great action!

My friend gave me a brand new falcon he’s never used. Very light. Going to try it out. Any one used one?
