Rods, 1 piece or 2 piece??

In looking at a couple of rods, I found one that is available in either 1pc or 2pc. While I can see where big fish/heavy rigs would require a 1pc rod, what are some thoughts on 2pc rods with light tackle, say a size 30 reel? Is there any real benefit to a 1pc over a 2 pc? Any reason not to consider a 2pc rod?

Thanks

Get the one-piece, DF. There are several reasons not to buy a two-piece, ranging from sentivitiy loss, to weight in the hand, to the sucker coming apart on you when you cast. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people launch the upper halves of their two-pieces when casting. The only way I’d consider a two piece is if I were going to have to check in into baggage on an airplane or something.

I general I prefer a one-piece rod. With that being said I have a place in western NC and use to trout fish a lot. There I prefer a multi-piece rod due to the fact I need to hike and climb to get to some of the steams. Especially for some of my brown trout spots. There a one-piece is just too much of a pain to deal with.

I used to fish all 2 piece. Switched to 1 piece rods 3 years ago and never looked back.

same reasons as gotchacovered.

It depends on the fishing application. Most high end rods Fly, Trout, Salmon, Steelhead rods are multi-piece rods.

anything under 7’ 6" - 1 piece, over that 2 Piece, only exception to this is if you have a rod rack to transport longer surf/jigging rods, I do not but if I did I would fish only one piece rods.

if you end up fishing a mutli piece rod, keep the joint clean and rub a tiny bit of candle wax on it between each use.

All good info, thanks guys!

If you get a longer one you could also get a telescoping one instead of a two piece. I have a few and love them. I cant stand multiple piece rods (except for fly).

A well made multi piece rods has little or no descernible change to the feel of action of the rod. However, unless you have a reason that requires a 2 piece (primarly storage and transporation) get a one piece because the same rod is less expensive and you do not need to worry about the connections becoming stuck if not periodically disassembled and cleaned.
