Rookies+frigid weather= no reds!!

Well today obviously wasn’t a day fit for fishing with the gusts of 25 mph winds blowing the 32 degree air in our faces on the kayak fishing the backwaters of charleston for the allusive redfish. But me and my pal, coming all the way from our largemouth bass home in western Georgia, were determined that we we’re going to get us a red.

We fished from 11 till dark today in the yak in stono and covered probably 7 miles of water fishing flats and backwaters. we threw gulp shrimp, zman smokin shad on a jig head, live mullet, mudminnows, fished with cork fished on bottom fished from docks and fished with waders… And nothing.

Maybe it’s our amateur status leaving us fishless but I felt like we did everything we could have done today to catch a fish but came up empty handed.

Trying it one more day tomorrow, I think the weather is supposed to be better and thinking about fishing around Kiawah. I know this is against fishing etiquette but if any of you experts out there feel sorry enough for us beginners to send me a private message of a good location to catch reds I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks guys!

ive been doing good ok for trout and red in cooper river along the shore using electric chicken paddle tail jigs and busted blue crab on the bottom. fishings best for me right near dusk and in clear water and casting to just where i cant see bottom near the shore. dont beat yourself up too bad though not that im an expert myself being from up north but i never do very well either when weather turns like this! past few nights tho right near dusk fish turned on very well so better weather hopefully your luck turns around.

Thanks OhioNavyNuke! Enjoy looking at your pics you caught the other day. And appreciate the help DolphinD, good luck to you guys today.

Tough fishing, even for locals, unless your on the flats. And even then if the winds blowing you can’t see um! Save gas. Fish Oct & May. $$$MONEY$$$ !!
