Ralph, Les and I took out after the “allusive” king mackerel on Saturday. We were torn trying to decide if we were even going to fish due to the forecast.
Headed south down the beach towards Georgetown, found bait outside of North Inlet, one cast and both baitwells full.
Headed further south, got 10 or so miles down the beach and the south swell was terrible, turned around and came back to the north side of the jetties, fished around pods of bait with no bites…maybe 1 shark.
Wind died a little so back to the south we head, get to our spot after running all tabs to get there, at 12:30, one king bite on propwash bait and Les grabs the rod, after a nice run and a short fight we boat 1/2 of a dink! (Would have been a nice dink though!)
End up catching a few sea bass, a 36 inch cobia and 1/2 a king! Nice ride home 35 knots! (Georgetown tideline was beautiful when we came
back by, but saw 0 bait or activity on it!) 140 gallons later we were back in beautiful MI!
Now here is the rest of the story…Whats the deal with the Kings? ±18 boats in the tournament, lots of good fisherman and zero fish weighed in! WOW! Something is up! Is it all the fresh water/moon/cold front/or just no fish, wtf? Any Ideas?

I have an idea but dont want the government involved. Last time I was in South Florida watched a commercial troller slinging them in the boat one after another.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!

fshnjoe I have been doing well on spot tail and flounder even in MI dont know about the piers but DANG no kingfish last saturday sure did hurt my feelings.

I haven’t been much this year, but my known good spot at the right tide produced an overslot red right away. But I wanted flounder that day so went to get some, not there.
Next day, sat on that spottail creek for a couple of hours at the right tide, nothing.
Next day, went for the flounder, got three keepers, it was a short window when they were biting.
So I’d agree it’s pretty hit or miss.
I think all the jelly balls must have washed up in the marsh on these tides, because I was seeing them everywhere and then just didn’t.
