This past Sunday I had planned on cruising around the eastern edge of the lake, but the thunderstorms started up on the eastern parts and the radar looked not too good. Ran over to the diversion canal and hung out to let the storms pass, which they did. However, after the storms, there was a continuous 15 knot wind coming from the southeast that created a nasty 2 to ocassional 3 foot whitecaps at the mouth of the diversion canal. I thought I was at the Charleston jetties, very rough. You have to respect the wind on a big lake, we got very wet, but we made it back to the east side after a slow ride. An 18.5 foot CC was not big enough for that bad ride.
That canal exit into Moultrie can be one of the most treacherous areas of the lake when strong current through the canal meets strong winds such as you described. Been there; no fun!

Especially in a bass boat! Been there too! Yikes!

Seems like I remember hearing of a 20 foot cc capsizing on Lake Moultrie a few years back. I think it had 3 men from Tennessee on it. They were fishing in December in a Catfish tournament. I think all 3 lost their lives. I think it was very windy and cold and the lake was very rough. Anyone remember this?
