Does anyone know what kind of clearance you have under the Rt 41 bridge? I just bought a 209 Sea Fox, and the specs state it has a bridge clearance of 7’11". I would like to use the ramp next to the bridge this season, but am worried about the clearance…
I assume you are referring to the bridge on the Wando River if so I have been through there many times in my boat which has a T top that is at least 8.5 feet off the water. My boat cant get under it on an extreme high tide.

Of course somebody knows. They don’t just make those numbers up
Charted bridge clearances are at Mean High Water. See
www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/learnnc_bridge.html
What is MHW? The average of all the high water heights observed over a period of several years. For example, in the USA this period spans 19 years and is referred to as the National Tidal Datum Epoch.

New bridge in the process of being built. You will not have any problems when it is in place

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.
Thanks all!! I knew I came to the right place.
Per the fella who runs that ramp right there he says on a normal high tide it’s 9’ on the west dunes side of the bridge. Anything hire than a normal.tide such as a king tide would be impassable like mentioned earlier. Same issue just purchased a 226 Seafox with optima top 8’6" bridge clearance…feel your pain I’m planning on cruising under it before or after high tides
Where can I get more info on king tides? they sounds exciting

I’m going to see if the guys working on the new bridge will spray paint a line 9’ down from the steel. That way if you don’t see the paint don’t try it… If they do it, I will let you know.
Is that ramp a public useable one???

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Most bridges have clearance markers, marked in 6" or 1’ intervals.

I wish y’all would of posted this a few weeks ago I just came off of a 6 week project there lol . Be careful of the current there it is nasty and don’t forget your rods if there are in the holders at high tide saw a few different guys beat there rods to death when they came thru there

King tide is a term that came from Australia. Some bright folks around here decided that the term Spring Tide, which has been in use in our area for the last hundred years, was not as cool as the Aussie term. Spring or King tides are the highest astronomical tides to occur during a roughly 28 day tidal cycle (roughly 6.5’ to 7.4’ in the Charleston Area). Neap tides are the lowest tides to occur during that cycle (4.5’ to 5.0’).

I finally looked at the chart as Cracker Larry suggested the listed clearance for the swing bridge is a mere 6 ft. It does not list the road bed clearance. on either side of the swinging deck.
I have a Sea Hunt Ultra 235 and go under that bridge frequently. 2.5 hours either side of high tide is my personal limit, which leaves a few inches to spare.
As someone else mentioned, the currents can really rip through there and they’ll push you sideways, so trying to back out at the last second wouldn’t be much fun!
One other thought, the center of the bridge is a couple of inches lower than the other spans due to the bridge structure, at least it appears that way to me. Gotta make every inch count!
