is reading above what it should. Is the gauge just simply bad or can I do something to fix it?
OEM tach or aftermarket?? Has it worked before or is this a new one you are putting on?

i think its oem…it came with the boat…it is over-taching
I just fixed a similar problem on mine. This might help:

You might have to find out the number of poles of your engine and adjust the “range selector” accordingly.

Shouldn’t you be getting ready to head over to take in a sunset at Lorelei’s or somethin?

thanks…so if I have teleflex that means the setting should be on 6?
I think so. If your tach was reading too high, the setting would have been too low.
I’m interested in this as well, I have my tach set to the correct setting for my motor, but it reads different from the last tach I had on the boat, about 400 RPM less at the same speed, with everything else being the same. I there is a “cal” screw on the tach which I imagine is to fine tune things, but what is the best way to determing the true speed of the engine? Master tach? Strobe light?

Take the boat and run it in the water. Take a flathead screwdriver on the bote with you. Cut the motor off each time when you switch positions on the back of the tach until it reads correctly when cranked and then run WOT. My min. service charge is for one hour, and my hourly rate is $100. Email me a check.
Thanks.

Will do…
got the tach working by adjusting the setting and then adjusting it back…but it looks like it is on its last legs…it will vacillate up and down at times
