Rude Yakers

i haven’t had to much of an issue with kayakers on the water, you just have to expect it at shem creek. Clogging up the boat ramp is what really pisses me off. Ex: At paradise landing the other day, some guy decides to park his 10ft, MAYBE 50lb kayak on the launch and back his car down to put it in the trunk of his Lexus sedan. Took him at least 7-8 minutes clogging up boaters (including me) trying to get in and out. Unpacking and trying to tie it up right. I can understand if you have a 14ft 80lb yak, but even then a kayak cart works great, and keeps you from clogging the ramp. I have a Jon boat but I fish mainly from a kayak and i would never back my car down a launch to get it in. Alot of us don’t really get as much time as we would like on the water and having to wait on ignorant people at the launch doesn’t help. I think some ramp etiquette signs would help educate some of these yahoos.

All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.

I am a kayak angler. Education is the key. I try to be curtious of all on the water and realize I am the smallest boat in the water. Most of these kayakers are tourist who have no idea. Instead of yelling at them, explain to them the right way.

If it’s a guided tour and they’re rude, just inform the guide and the tourist you’ve been chumming for a little shark fishing.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

Kayak anglers I like… Kayakers and boaters that have no clue of boating and ramp sense = dumb people who would do the same thing regardless of craft. + 1 on the ramp blocking yakking tours… I understand it’s easier for the tour guides but get those people in and out ASAP

There are just as many dumba** power boaters on the water as kayakers.Actually probably a lot more of them. Give them their due

Yes, please paddle through my corks and lines while there is more than enough river for you to be courteous and give me some enough space to fish my lines. Your name suits you well, Jerk Bait

Thanks for yore support!!

I can pile on to both kayakers and boaters.

The other day while heading out from Shem Creek beside Crab Bank, a shrimp boat was heading in and 2 kayakers were doing their very best to get in his way. They were separate far enough apart he could not go between them, they were both on top of the channel. So I politely told them “Hey…you’re in the channel, it’s too shallow for that shrimp boat coming up behind you”. They asked which way to go and I pointed toward the grass line and they did. The shrimp boat guy tipped his hat as we passed him…I guess he was trying to figure out how not to run them down and he was glad I got them to move.

Then there was yesterday, we were on anchor in the middle grounds for some reds or sharpnosed action and we had no less than 4 boat go within 50 feet of us running wide open. It’s a big assed harbor but yet these boaters wanted to see the color of our eyes.

It’s hard to say if it’s rude people, stupid people or ignorant people. They sure are annoying.

Why would you say that sheepheader? Do you think there are no ignorant boaters on the water here?

There are rude people everywhere. In boats, yaks, on the road, heck even in the supermarket. But, I felt compelled to write about the rude yakers as the numbers were overwhelming. I know it happens on occasion we run into people who are just flat out stupid. But, every single yaker that came by acted like I was in there way and Im talking about all of them not just one or two they all were rude and paddled right through my fishing hole. Dozens and dozens of them. It was really beyond belief. It seems to be getting worse for some reason. What happened to the good ole days of southern hospitality and good ethics? I got checked by the DNR the other day and told them about the incident and how it would be beneficial if they would take the time to educate the yakers and they just snickered. Its nice to know our public servants we pay a decent salary and benefits to are really out there for everyone’s best interest and not just to give us a hard time and hopefully write some tickets. Yes, that last sentence is sarcasm. Worthless game wardens. I wish they would cut there jobs back along with their (is that better wise guy?)salaries. Most of them are buttholes.

Thanks for yore support!!

Its “their”, not “there”. Just saying. You know what bugs me more than rude people, stupid people.

Annoy a Liberal, Work Hard and Be Happy!

I understand the whole “A few bad apples…” comment but that’s painting with a VERY broad brush.

I also don’t know about the “decent salary” thing either. Given the severe cuts both the DNR’s budget and workforce (they have had their “jobs” cut back) have taken over the years, I personally think they’re doing the best they can with what they have. They’re asked to do much more now than ever before and yet they have less to do it with. They can’t be everywhere all the time and they can’t make everyone happy all the time.

Aint it so…

Actually it is correctly “there” and not “their” in that context, but the word “is” should be replaced with “are” as it’s plural. “Their” is possessive

I believe our finned friend Dave was referring to the next to last sentence here.

Also, shear should be sheer in this instance…

Normally I could not care less about someone’s typing prowess on the internet but, when he maligns an entire profession because he has had a bad experience then I’ll make an exception.

I would be willing to bet these heinous kayakers were tourists who, while they maybe should have known better obviously did not. If you are trying out something for the first time and wowed by the experience then I could see where one might not think about other boats. I was fairly on board until he referred to game wardens as “worthless” and “buttholes”.

I’d be willing to bet there are far more jackass boaters than there are kayakers. At least kayakers can’t hurt anyone with their ignorance. Boaters can and sometimes do.

I almost ran over an older lady at the Herbert H. Jessen ramp on the Ashley River. Double ramp, I was loading my boat on the downstream ramp, she was loading her kayak on the upstream ramp. If any of you are familiar with this ramp, the current rips pretty good through there. I’m untied and ready to come in but watching her, she sees me, smiles and motions for me to come in. Great! But then she decides to shove off as I’m coming in hot. I have to slam into reverse, then almost get pushed by the current sideways into the downstream dock. I kind of felt bad for her, the look of shear panic as my bow was coming straight at her head. Obviously first time launching a kayak in that current but Jeez! Going back to as stated previously in this thread, a little common sense people. Not hating on yakers at all, looks like a lot of fun and wouldn’t mind having one myself, but the water is not all yours!

Dfreedom,
I’m with you on this one. He lost me when he started his rant about game wardens. Calling game wardens “worthless” and “buttholes” is pretty strong speech. Keep in mind the wardens deal with subjects who are normally always armed and are in place to protect a resource that were all very passionate about. I’m awfully glad we’ve got those guys around.

Jerk bait is right. I’ve spent my whole life on the water from 12’ Jon boats to 57 footers. There are always idiots on the water, some on yaks and some on 48 foot crusiers. People have extra money and decide it would be nice to have a boat to keep up with the jones, too often with no idea how to operate within any sense of the rules of the road for navigation or safety for themselves or others on the water. How many times have you seen a vessel running at night with no lights? How many times has a nice new boat run across your bow? Idiots are not limited to yaks. They come in all sizes and colors. That’s why it’s so important for us who understand to be sober and fully aware of our surroundings at all times while on the water.
