Fished Sol Legare Creek for a short bit. Didn’t stay long because of the wind and the rude ass kayakers. Hard to believe that humans have no common sense. They paddle right next to you while your anchored fishing. Paddling through my fishing spot. I didn’t say anything because there were so many of them and they were all so (**() ignorant. I was completely overcome with the dumbass. I wanted to shoot these people. Caught a few sheeps anyway. I still can’t believe how dumb and rude people are. I guess next time Im on water I will see how many yakers I can hook.
Nah man common sense would tell you to give a fisherman a little room. They were paddling between me and the bank I was fishing with a cork. It was too ridiculous to even explain. I really was just dumbfounded totally unbelievable. The real reason I didn’t say anything is because I was so pissed I really wanted to sink there yaks.
That area of the river has become tough to fish and I have just moved on to other areas on the weekends. I had the same experience with them coming between my boat and the bank while casting. I really think they are totally unaware of what is going on for the most part. Was out with the wife and kids last week and there were several guys out there that had rented kayaks and we moved on because they were so loud and talking about things I really did not want my kids to hear. So much water to fish, just better to move and enjoy the day.
I agree with Narcosis, these kayak rental operations could eliminate a lot of this by taking 5 minutes to explain how we all share the water and to be aware and considerate of people fishing. There will always be those that act as though they are the only humans on the planet but, most are simply ignorant.

Should be law to explain that. Especially if you're paddleboarding Shem Creek and there's boat traffic.

No, there shouldn’t be. That’s the problem now: we don’t need more laws, just a little courtesy and common sense…

If you're running a business that requires more than common sense (there are people that have never been on the water) then you should be required by law to give them a brief orientation.
I had a dirty hippie kayak guide in Folly come between me anchored and the grass line (20feet tops) with a group of 15. She had the audacity to tell me I need to learn to share the water when I asked her what the hell was she doing. The river I was in was 100 feet wide. The people on the tour have no idea that they are doing anything wrong. I can’t wait for the fall fishing to start!!
Black Bart is correct, we dont need more laws. If you expected anything but ignorant people this weekend you might want to rethink that one. Memorial weekend is the worst weekend for boating, thats why I dont plan anything on the water. The wife thinks I’m being nice by getting honey do’s accomplished:smiley:.
I was coming into Shem creek yesterday and six paddle boarders we’re stretched all the way across the creek in a line. I had to stop while they slowly parted so I could get through. No clue on waterway navigation.
Black Bart agreed, common sense and courtesy. Its not that hard. A lot of these people are anti hunters and fisherman and do this crap on purpose because we might kill a fish. We are old school and we eat what we catch and a lot of us fish for fun, catch and release. But these boat landings they clutter up with there yaks are paid for by us who have to pay for a license to hunt and fish. It ain’t right and Im gonna start vocalizing my disdain for an idiot paddling through my lines. Maybe this will get the attention of DNR and they can start educating the ignorant yakers.
That’s just bs bunch of anti hunting and fishing freaks.

Shem creek is a nightmare on the weekend this time of year. Kayaks and Paddleboards are everywhere. Most of them don’t seem to have any concern for anything other than flipper.

Saturday before memorial Day is always a crazy time at IOP boat launch. Wind was very strong. Boats trying to hold position after launch or waiting turn to load on trailers. BIG craft trying to get in to get diesel fuel. It was a cluster waiting to happen…and then the kayak operator brings a single file line of 20+ kayakers across the inlet at the ramp…I know they have a permit to operate and have a right to be on the water and probably function as a big money maker for the ramp licensee but someone needs to use some common sense before someone gets run over!
Kayakers SUCK, and now I see it is happening to others and not just me. Agreed! A little common sense with these morons would go a long way. In congested areas, I almost…almost understand their stupidity. However, it happens to me in the middle of nowhere miles and miles away from civiliaztion. That is the ones that REALLY get on my nerves. Miles of water all around, and some idiot kayaker paddles right between me and where I’m fishing. I have the same problem with Jet Skis from time-to-time…usually an unsupervised teenager too.

Idiots are and will be idiots regardless of their vessel of choice. I don’t own a kayak but i’ve seen some of these same acts of stupidity performed by boaters as well.
Personally, I think anyone that takes to the water in ANY vessel should have an understanding (truly understand and comprehend) of the Rules of the Road and a boat load (no pun intended) of common sense. Sadly, that’s just not the case.
Stupid is as stupid does…regardless of the mode of transportation.

Not all yakkers are idiots, just as I suppose not all boaters are idiots.
I’ve been sitting in my yak in that very stretch of water as the OP and had a jacktard in a powerboat run between me and the grassline just to phuk up my fishing.
Like archer said, idiots will be idiots regardless of their vessel of choice.
