Anyone have any opinions on their rifles? I am looking for a .270 and like the feel and price of the new American rifles. Any thoughts or advice would be great
I like the feel of the bolt and rotary mag. The bolt feels better than the new 700 ADL I got last year.
I am a little Ruger biased though. I have 2 M77 mk2’s and love them. They shoot consistently with a variety of loads and bullet weights, especially the .280. I think you will have a difficult time finding someone who does not like a Ruger bolt rifle that owns one.

the ruger americans have not gotten good reviews, stock puts different pressure on the barrel depending on how it’s held and affecting accuracy
I’m a big fan of Ruger, have a M77 MKII in 270 that is great. Never missed a shot that I could blame on the rifle. Also have a 10/22, the best .22 ever made IMO, and a 10/44 which is a badazz little carbine, plus a few hand guns. They make fine firearms for sure. That being said, I’ve never even held one of the new American rifle series, know nothing about them except reading the ads.

The American is nothing but a low cost entry level optioned rifle. That said, they’ll shoot if you find the right ammo to put in them. I’ve had one or two M77’s that were lights out and I’ve had one or two M77’s you be better off with the rock at your feet with. I do love the Ruger No.1 though but it seems most of them take some tuning and work to get the way they should come from the factory, triggers are just awful. They make a heck of a revolver, just don’t like the sweep of the grip. The Red Label is a decent O/U but I prefer the Browning Citori in that price range. Never cared for their auto pistols. I also have a 10/44 and love it, perfect carbine for some sneaking through the woods. The 10/22 is one of the best if not the best .22LR ever made.
Ruger makes pretty good guns, not the best and not the worst by a long shot.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

What recommendations would you recommend as far as the 270 line? What brands?
I’ve got a M77 in .270 and had a M77 in 30-06. You can adjust the trigger pull on the older M77, but I had to change out the spring on the newer M77. Great hunting rifle, but needs a cool down if you run more than 4-6 shots at a time as your grouping will open up. They also benefit from “floating” the barrel.
Got a Mark II and Mark III .22lr and love both. I have a P85 .9mm that has probably had 10,000+ rounds through it… flawless pistol, And for the best thing Ruger has ever made, the 10/22. The newer models seem a little cheaper made with the plastic trigger guard, but still a great all around plinker.

Used as a hunting rifle and a tool, nothing more? A Savage 111 or 110 based rifle. Accurate, good factory trigger, rugged and relatively cheap. Hard to beat them for out of the box no frills gun. They aren’t pretty but get the job done. Plus if you want to change to say a 30’06, buy the barrel, set of go/no go gauges and a few other tools and swap it out yourself.
