I managed to pull a James Bond stunt on the way back from shrimping Friday night and literally jumped an oyster bar finger doing about 20 kts. Landed in about 12 inches of water and managed to get off of the oyster bar with my paddle and made it back to the dock without incident. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. Needless to say I filed a claim with my insurance company and need a contact in Beaufort for someone who can give me an estimate/repair for scratches and holes from bow to stern on my fiberglass hull along with the gouges on the skeg and lower unit. I can laugh about it now, but at the time it was pretty scary.
OUCH!! Good luck.
Had a friend just hit the edge of one Friday night too.
He was not shrimping though was on the way back from an adult trip with the wife, got stuck and then flashed another boat that turned out the be DNR. pulled him off the bead with just scratches.
I was laughing too hard as he told me the story.
Hey next time wave at me with all your fingers.
Yeah, my two buddies and I can’t look at each other now without laughing about it. It’s one of those crazy things about life threatening experiences. After it’s over and you walk away with no injuries, all you can do is laugh and “what if” it to death.
