Anybody up to speed on SC navigational light requirements for a kayak? I’ve been displaying a 360 deg white light before dawn if I thought I had any chance for DNR company, but stowage is a real pain. While browsing thru DNR’s website, I found a page - http://www.boat-ed.com/sc/handbook/lights.htm - that seems to indicate the light is NOT a requirement for unpowered vessels less than 23.0 feet long.
Am I interpreting that page incorrectly? I still carry a flashlight for emergencies, but I’d like to dump the portable running light.
Thanks,

I talked to dnr guy a yr ago and he told me a white light is required, not the green/red bow light. Also talked to a guy from Lowcountry paddlers and he only used headlamps. This is what I use.
If you get the skinny, let us know.
I use a white light w/ 360° visibility. I also have a headlamp.
If you’re under 23 feet and underway , you aren’t required to have running lights. If you’re anchored you are required to have a 360° light

…also, for those guys that think they’ll play it extra safe. Please keep in mind, never install running lights on your kayak. With running lights, if you do not have the right of way, you must get out of the way. This could be hard to do while paddlin’, stick with just the white 360.
