Running Motor on the Hose

Is it OK to run a 2000 Johnson 225 using the flush port as a water supply? Or is it better to use the earmuffs?

Thanks

NO !!! use earmufffs if its what I think you are talking about. The flush port should only be used when the motor is off and you are “flushing out” the motor.
On my Yammy i have a hose connector for flushing, i think this is what you are talking about?

That’s what I’m talking about 210 Scout. Thanks.

Can you use BOTH when motor running?

I use both on my yamaha 250’s. Seems to work ok and this was at the advice of the dealer.

The way I always thought of it was the flush port is at the top of the motor. It forces water through the top of the motor and down pass the water pump to the foot. Where’as the muffs push water from the foot up pass the water pump to the top. It seems that it would cause some type of back pressure at the pump running both.

I’ve always just used the flush port and also was wondering if I could run both. Has anyone read anything from Yamaha stating that is was OK to run both?

Are you saying that you run the engine using just the flush port? If so, this can’t be good for your water pump impellor.

No, I’ve always used the flush port. Only run on the muffs. Guess I should have said USED both and not RUN. In other words, is it safe to run with the muffs hooked up while using the flush port and garden hose at the same time?

you can run the engine on the upper flush adapter, as long as its at idle speed.
plenty of water drains back down from the block to keep the waterpump wet.
do not run the motor at higher than 1000 rpms. the water wont make it to the bottom of the impeller, and it could over heat
best way is put it in a drum
second is 2 hoses, 1 at teh top, 1 at teh bottom
there isnt going to be an issue with backpressure or anything.

I have always just used the top flush port at idle. I had 870 hours on the motor the first time I changed my pump. It still looked almost new. I am at 1633 hours now. I am fixing to change it again.
So far, no problems. I do let it flush for a bit before cranking the engine, and after I stop the engine. Does that matter? Probably not, but it has worked, so why change (for my engine anyway)? Of course, mine is only a 150…

Chris, did you find that part for my lid yet?

Just curious, If you have only one hose is it better to run it in the top flush (at idle) or the bottom flush. I have a yamaha 150. Thanks

ITS BETTER TO USE THE EAR MUFF STYLE, AND RUN IT FROM THE BOTTOM

I run my 150hp from the top flush port and have never had a problem.

It sounds SO much better to run the motor on the muffs. The neighbors just love it!!!
