Rushing the Season?

Oh well, got tired of waiting so I went trolling this morning.
Dragged a Repalla 25+ deep and a large Clark spoon shallow out around Buoy #8 and back. Nada, but it was a beautiful day and good to get on the water again.
There was some heavy Bluefish action, birds feeding, fish tearing up the bait, just beyond the jetties around 8AM.
Wasn’t really set up for them; but tied a medium Clark spoon on my light casting rod and had a go at them.
Had a couple of hits but didn’t hook any.
Oh well, Summer is just under way.

Off we went again yesterday. Still no action; didn’t even see any bluefish this time.
Finally got tired of trolling and anchored on the North side of the South jetty where we caught a three foot Lemon shark and a 32 pound Red!! Used Carolina rigs & cut Mullet.
We didn’t rock the Red quite enough on release, and she floated off in the tide belly-up. My buddy just couldn’t stand that and was all set to jump overboard and rescue the fish. Luckily, she revived just as he was on the gunwhale and happily swam off. Thank Heaven for that; rescuing my pal and the fish in a six knot flood tide was a drill I can do without.
So the day was a success after all.
