S Fla fishing

Just got back. Fishing was slow. Wind just right for the kite. There was a tournament down in ocean reef that only had 7 releases on the day (1 at noon). Everybody was slow on the radio.
Day 1: Mixed bag. 1 of everything. 1-2 sails, 1-several kings, 1 dolphin, 1 grouper, 1 snapper, 1 bonito, 1 jack…
one lucky boat south had a double header white-sail.
Day 2: 4-6 sails, 1 bonito, 1 dolphin, 1 wahoo cut off. No sail bites before 3. Had a shot at a triple, but only got 2. Nothing on the bottom rod.

recommend heading south during spring break.

I’m going to post a report once I acquire all pictures from the week but we headed down to Marathon and fished this past week. Fishing was challenging as well with mostly blackfin and a couple dolphin caught. Spanish and Ceros were day savers as far as dinner. Jumped two sails and both came before 8AM in 185-200 ft of water. Where did you guys run out of?

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

Where at in S FL.? Thinking about going down and taking a charter early April and looking for suggestions.

Fishing on the bottom is like having sex with the lights turned off. It feels good but I wanna see it.

Capt. Dave Schugar out of Marathon is one of the best. Hell of a guy and can flat put you on any kind of fish you choose to target.

this was covered recently on here, so you may do a thread search.
Michael Mattson is in Marathon for a while if you’re looking for a local connection.
Ray Rosher/Miss Britt and Jon Cooper/Dive-version are who I’d recommend in Coconut Grove-Miami. I can provide their contact info if you need it.
Jimbo Thomas/Thomas Flyer runs a decent operation there. He’s one of the top taggers in Hammond’s dolphin program.

I was hoping to find a trip closer to Daytona, Cape Canaveral, or Palm Beach, (closer to here if you get my drift) This will be a mad dash for a three day weekend. Trying to plan a Bachelor Party trip so the fishing needs to be real good. I spent hours last night looking around, FL, LA, And NC. It looks like the fishing reports are spotty at best right now with exception to LA. But WOW, that is a long trip and very expensive fishin’…But them some big ass Tuners

the fishing in south fla sucks these days.

Coconut Grove is a good one then. Ray’s boats would work better hungover. Bar at the Marina. Plenty of hotels withing walking distance between that and the bars on Grand Ave. Some serious places and some dives to go for more traditional activities.

Capt. Potmouse: What’s your take on Palm. You were our tour guide one year there.

Palm Beach has always been hit or miss worse than any other spot down there. It is easy fishing, and can be unreal. A friend of mine caught 20 between between alm Beach and Pompano this year and saw another 200 fish. South of there, Pompano-Lauderdale-Miami has been more consistent later in the year for some time now.
I enjoyed fishing the Stuart/Ft Pierce area better, good fishing and more like
what we do here, trolling with dredges and tiny ballyhoo.
