Got a ride on DDs 31FA contender the Holt-On. Ran contender hard through a sloppy ocean to just shy of the 226. Put lines in and trolled trying to find something holding a fish finally found a good weedline with a nice temp break. Looked perfect! Well… not so much. Trolled and trolled finally one of the 30TW comes to life “FINALLY FISH ON” cleared lines fought him for about 5 mins then the hook pulled. Moral was low it was hot when all of the sudden, coolest thing I have ever seen. One of the guys yells “look at that fin!” I turn around and it honestly looked like a submarine coming into the spread. She was lit up and pushing a wake. DD and I jumped on the rods and started dropping back to her. Next thing you know the short rigger snaps and the penn 30TW SCREEMED to life and I mean SCREEMED! She was less than 50 yards behind the boat and began jumping. Biggest blue I have ever seen while fishing. I began frantically clearing lines. While DD was shouting “hurry, hurry she is going to spool me!” she jumped again and it was over the 30lb line broke. But WOW that was cool! Had her on for 3 to 5 mins. Trolled alittle longer and got a hit on my avet rigged with some stronger line and my always hot LEHI bleeding dolphin. Fought him for about 45 mins. Big Bull to finally run the skunk out at 3:00pm. I think we have some good video of him jumping right next to the boat. Took him by Haderalls(sp?) to weigh but they were closed so take your best guess. 50 inches from fork length and 14 inch girth. It was hot and slow but still had a good time.
Ended with 1 dolphin and a free gaffed trigger.

Same one. You know how I like to take pics and unfortunatly that is the only thing exciting I had my camera around to capture. Wish I could have got that blue on video or at least a pic. But that was not top priorty at the time.
I almost forgot. We found a blue door floating around the weedline holding a big triple tale and a few triggers. They would not hit anything but did not seem to be boat shy at all. So let’s just say the dolphin looked alittle lonely in the box and DDs gaff sure was sharp.

No the trigger was hiding under the door. He was the victim of a frustrated mate and a hungry crew. He is going to eat well.
Is the first time I have ever seen one on the surface. He was dark brown. I guess he was a bit tan.

I cant go fishing until my son decides to pop out (wife is 8 1/2 months)… spoke to him a little while ago. Said he got nice blue and a few dolphin. Was mumblin something about a figting harness and bigger reels, then fussed a little about me not being there to do his dirty work. Sounded like they had a good day.

Yea, he has some really nice set ups but I have been leaning on him and talking alot of trash about his 30Ws with 30lb line. Been pushing him to buy some 50Ws and re spool those 30s. Also mentioned how nice a fighting harness would be. This weekend probably made him a believer. 1 for 3 on blues in 2 days is not bad at all! He is a good fisherman. No telling what he will bring home when he gets some big boy tackle on board.

BTW hows that crows nest working out, Ive only given it the “dry run”
Works real well. I want one for my boat. I want a top for it (some of us burn, not tan) and a remote for his auto pilot to run up there. Really nice to get up and see the spread. Those sporties with towers have big advantage over us.
