It was a beautiful morning, a little chilly but nice breeze, dew on the grass just enough to dampen my toes between my worn out crocks… I stared across the yard as a sea gull flew over, with a gentle sigh, I asked Bully, where is that… (**() YANKEE!!!
Courtland was running late something about SC drivers, traffic jams, his hybrid battery was low, blah, blah, blah, blah FREAKING BLAH!! HURRY!!!
He finally shows up with more tackle than Meltons every dreamed of stocking. All these fru fru spinning reels with gold and crap on them. No roller guides, no lever drags, except for some little silver thing he called an acuu-rat.
Throw the crap in the boat and lets roll!!!
It was to be an easy day offshore, Little B was celebrating a birthday, Bully, Courtland, Haywood, Wade, and two other guys I just met headed out. We were going on a gloried sea trail in the 37 and I got invited so why not?
Suppose to be slick but mother nature had it stirred up a bit solid 2 to 3s with wind slop on top. But we were in the 37 Freeman and it eats that crap for breakfast so at 50mph we headed offshore.
After a short power nap, bully tells us to drop the high speed gear over and lets catch a wahoo. Did that for about an hour and a half with not a bite. Little B was ready to catch something so we dropped some jigs and before you know it TRIPLE!!! … reef donkeys:imp:
We played with them and the bonita for a while. Courtland and his tackle rep buddy brought some monster donkeys to the boat on his fru fru spinning gear… Maybe there is something to that stuff cause he was able to whip a 50 pounder pretty quick. After an hour or so of that we move to another spot.
On the way I deploy a few wahoo rods and 2 cedar plugs blue and white and orange and black.
We saw another boat coming in the distance and it looked like we where headed to the same spot. Bumped the speed up and bit and then it happen…
BAMMM!!
