Left the upstate at 2am Friday morning with a group of new fishing buds. Made it to Rivers edge by 5 and met up with HOLT ON to load the boat. Had to run to Patriots point to get fuel (long story:imp:) so we did not clear the jetties until after 7:30. Ride out was nice. Holton wanted to fish his spot south of the 226 so we dropped lines there. First hour and a half I could not get more than 3 lines in the water with out having a knockdown. Crew was learning quick and jumped into action, no rookie mistakes. At this rate we would have had 30 by lunch then all of the sudden someone flipped a switch and it was OVER! Went from on fire to picking at them here and there. We went deep, shallow, north, south did not seem to matter. Ended up trolling till late hoping they would turn on again. Stopped by one of Phin’s bottom spots and caught a trophy blue fish and a couple other bottom dwellers. Didn’t really have the tackle we needed for that depth so we called it a day. Ride home was nice and the crew was worn out.
Had a good time, wish the bite would have not fallen off in the afternoon. Back in the upstate by 1:30am Saturday morning! Talk about your L-O-N-G days.
Totals:
10 dolphin
1 Blackfin
couple bottom fish
Highlights:
This was the first trolling trip for these guys but they caught on very quick, by the end of the day were rigging ballyhoo and knew were to place rods in the spread. Did enjoy the, “When the fish hit a rod in the out rigger, how will we know?” Fish hits, rigger snaps, ZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! FISH ON! Like that.![]()
Watching the shuttle take off! You could see the smoke trail from the 226. VERY COOL!!
Finding some buds from the upstate to ride down and back with. Makes the trip much easier.
Josh gets credit for the pictures this trip. His camera is MUCH better than mine.
