Monday at 12:30 I was eating lunch with a fellow colleague talking fishing and the phone rang. I normally would not disrupt lunch but the caller ID said I had too. Captain Ed was returning an earlier call to discuss the weekend fishing. We talked a bit and he tells me they are going tomorrow and asks if I would like to come. Well in about 30 seconds my schedule was clear and I was GO!
Brianh picked me up at 7:30 we met Chunky in Manning took a power nap and were on the Earl E Bird at 5am.
Captain Ed, Earl and little Earl aka Earl E Bird have done a TON of work to bring the 55 foot Bobby Sullivan into her fishing condition. Very impressed with all they have put into her.
Ride out was comfortable in the 3 to 4 footers. She is no rocket ship but when you can sleep on the couch and watch tv in the AC there is no reason to haul butt.
Put lines in around 8 and it was ON! First fish hit the port bridge pole and dropped it, Captain Ed would have nothing of this and added the magic touch, next thing you know his 50W is screaming!!! ZZZZZZZZ!!
The rod was handed to the cockpit and the battle began!
The crew worked him around the spread and in goes #1!
Never had a super strong bite but we stayed on them pretty much all day.
Caught some more blackfin and a couple dolphin the we realized we were missing Mr. Wahoo to complete the meat fish slam. Well guess what we found…
With the slam complete we kept working to bring home the groceries. Earl E Bird ran a good spread and did not lose a single fish boat side.

Way to go, Scott and crew! Know well what you mean 'bout it being nice to enjoy all the comforts of a Sporty that our dear Contenders simply cannot provide… Mine is telling me she wants to fish, especially now after three successful trips on The Most Comfortable Mudslinger! API goes to St. Johns next week, and she’ll get her offshore fix on then!
