I blame the Jabez and the Full Pull!!!
After watching our two best charter captains post numbers over 20 with tuna, wahoo, and dolphin on Tuesday I checked the forecast. We have a window! Lets leave late and fish the SW breeze down and be back home before the NE kicks up! We can dodge the rain showers with the radar and sirus. We got this!!!
So Billy and I along with a few other guys that cough, cough, called in sick cleared the rocks at 12pm. SW was dying as planned! I dozed off to a short nap in my bean bag as the Freeman 37 cruised out at 45mph to the ledge.
Heard the 350s unwind only to wake up to a chilly breeze? Yep she was starting to white cap and guess what it was coming out of the NE… My weather man at sailflow blew it! The front was 6 hours early… But we were at the grounds and it was time to make it happen.
Made a few passes and boxed 2 nice blackfin.
Looking for a more aggressive bite Bully ran us a bit further north.
Tons of flyers but nothing pushing them. Boxed a dolphin and pulled off a wahoo on the plainer.
The sea was getting quite pissy at this point as the sun was going down. Figured it was time to head toward the hill at 8pm. By this time it was rough!
Made it home safe and sound!
Was not my plan for kicking off the trolling season and I sure did not live up to the curb stomping Jabez and Full Pull put on them but it was a good time with great people and I pick up a few new pointers for the tackle box.
Hoping to try them again soon!
The conditions when we cleared the jetties at the bouy. The jetties themselves were a hot mess!
Sorry for lack of pictures but it was not a good camera day.
Set the trap boys, we going
