Anyone know if Lakeworld has Sabikies? I went by Sportsman’s at lunch and couldn’t find any. I could have swore I got them there before.
They have them in 2 sizes, i use the smaller size

They say you can:wink:, but I’ve never had any luck. With that said, I can barely catch any kind of fish. Have had fair luck catching gars while trying for the striped fish.

I have had good luck using small gold hooks, no bait or feathers. Just tie the about 6" apart up the line above a 2 oz sinker, use about 10 and jij up and down! make your self a dehooker out of cloths hanger wire and you can drop them in the tank without touching them!
we had lights out on StriperSkiff’s boat (Tim) on friday night and the Sabikis we were using were catching plenty of herring.

I have never been able to catch herring on sabikis under lights. Catch plenty in the daylight at the towers, but I have dropped them down into the lights when they were loaded with herring and never caught one herring. I must be doing something wrong

I have always had trouble at night as well until this past Fri night. Figured out u gotta be a little more patient at night versus the day.

They hit them best on the fall…so spend more time with the rig falling than sitting still or coming up… the other key is to find the right depth…even though you may see them at the surface or on your fishfinder, the most herring will come from a certain depth…so I usually start 10 ft down…jig for a couple minutes, down 5 more ft…jig for a couple minutes, down 5 more feet…etc. until i tune in to the most productive depth… For some reason, the herring you see at the surface are harder to catch than the ones below them…lol If you are jigging correctly, you first indicator that you have hooked a herring will probably be the slack line…in other words, when the bait falls, you expect it to eventually come tight, but when the herring gets on, it stops the fall of the sabiki rig and the line appears slack…

I have had sabikis that worked fine in the day and not at night under the light even with tons of bait around. Let me know before you go out next time at night and I will give you one to try.

And use the least weight possible !!!
I have always used 2 ounces but that may be more from jigging bait in saltwater where current and tides play a role…I was jigging blue runners, pilchards, cigar minnows, leatherjackets…lol long before I ever jigged up a blueback…You guys know about leatherjackets?

yeah, leatherjackets are weird looking fish. Kinda looks like a flounder with a horn! but watch out for that horn!
