I know this had probably been asked before. But hoe do you make you own sabiki rigs around here? I’ve never even used one do I font have any experience to start from. I hear people say that pinfish are great bait, just like how people say you can scallop a stingray. They heard it but don’t wanna try it. I figure there’s so many pinfish something has to eat these God awful fish. Plus I’m goin to Florida and I heard big trout and stuff like em. So I want a couple sabikis for when throwing a cast net isn’t an option. What’s the best (and cheapest, I’d like to save money rather than buying the prepackaged ones) to make your homeade sabikis. I heard small gold Aberdeen hooks with a straw ran up the shank? And also I was giving some thought on home made sabiki rods? Thanks in advance.
I’m a high class redneck.
Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.
Its kinda hard not to justify just buying the prepackaged ones. You can get the cheap ones around 1.50$ or so in some places. Probably the same amount for a pack of gold hooks, and its already made. I hate the sabiki rods. they are just too heavy in my opinion. I just use your standard inshore CASTING rod but carry a piece of 1’ or 1 1/4" thin wall pvc. when sabiki is not in use, i slide the pipe over the rod to keep the sabiki from hooking everything in site.
Just buy them as they are cheap. Use enough weight to keep them vert. And you will have bait. Take a piece of coat hanger and bend one end with a circle about half the size of a dime so you can release the bait into the live well . Makes quick work.
Yakman where we are going we are not gonna need sabikis because the pin fish wont bite them unless they have shrimp or squid on them so wre will just use small peices of shrimp on small j hooks

That’s a dang good idea right there Never seen it, never heard of it, or even thought of it before, but it’s great Thanks.
I’ve never made a sabiki rig either, just buy them, they are cheap.

I have done that a lot in the past, but it was for Spanish Macs. That rig will catch Spanish for sure. Cut the end of the straw at a 45 degree angle so it darts around.
Pinfish are better caught on small hooks like a bream hook with no weight, or a very small split shot, with tiny pieces of shrimp. Or in traps. I’m heading to Florida on Friday for a trip out to the middle grounds, we will spend all Friday night just catching pinfish for bait. There is no better grouper and snapper baits than pinfish, and we try to take at least 100 when we leave the dock. 200 is better:smiley:

Watch for sales at bass pro, I picked up a few dozen of their offshore angler rigs for $1.25 es a while back.
I made a sabiki rod out of the two larger sections of one of those fiberglass crappie poles and an old spinning reel. Drilled a hole near base so line runs inside, works great and cost $10. I can post some pics if anyones interested.
I bought sabiki rigs at the Bass Pro in Islamorada for .99. Make your own sabiki riod out of pvc, an old rod and a cheap zebco. Works great. There are plenty of Youtube videos.
