sabikis

Anyone use sabikis to catch bait in the shipping channel going towards the jetties. Are there cigar minnows around the bouys or do you gave to be farther out?

I have never used them here but have used them with very good success in FL. I don’t see why they would not work. My youngest loves fishing with a sabiki rig.

I use sabikis but i dont go out that far. I have good success with them in the harbor and surrounding rivers. Actually have caught more than just bait with them on occasion.

Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Anything that bites. I don’t go offshore so I just use them for cut bait on carolina rigs. Hit a good number of flounder, trout, blues and alot of sharks. Makes pretty decent crab bait as well but only if you check your traps often.

from my admittedly limited experience, there are usually sardines and cigar minnows around the outer buoys, especially the “C” buoy. Seems like the water just isn’t clear enough at the closer buoys buoys for them.

We’ve used them the last two times I’ve been out this month, at the last two sets of can’s on the channel markers and there is more then enough bait out there. Say hi to the big cuda at can #4 for me!!

Bait is around all the cans. Take a piece of wire and bend what looks like an extended opened paper clip which will help you release the bait into the live well without hurting the bait.

How does the wire release work? Do have any pics of it?
Thanks everyone for your replies.

No pictures but it is very easy.

Make a hook and when you swing the bait in you dehook. Easy. Touch the bait least and better baits.
