Sail 6/9

We left Edisto Marina with the rest of the fleet about 4 am Saturday, and put lines in at 150 feet. It was slow but steady, as we fished out to 226 and back. We found some better mats than I’ve seen this year, but no breaks. We picked up 11 dolphin through the day, and had decided on a time to bring the lines in. But we then chose to fish another 15 minutes past the time…and it was like the “one more cast”, when a sail hit. My son landed him, we took the photos and then had a better ride in than expected.

Since our freezers are full, we kept only 3 mahi, and it was good to have no more to clean than that. Actually these fish ran some smaller than earlier this year.

One boat was threatened with some shaft problems through the day. And it was good to hear several boats stay in touch until he was safely in. That is the kind of men you want to fish around when you’re 60 miles out.

’ forgot to mention…many of our dolphin came on a technique I learned on this board…stopping the boat and letting the baits fall alongside the mats. I think it is thanks to Cracker(?) for that tip.
