Fished between 226 and 380 hole looking for sails. Found them in 500-600 feet and finally figured out the drop-back thing. Ended up 3 for 5 mostly on longriggers and wtfb despite running our fancy new holographic strip tease right behind the boat on the downrigger. Go to lure was blue and pink switch and medium ballyhoo…it also accounted for the 4’ shark and baby wahoo. Weather was decent, a little choppy mid-day. Water 84 degrees. Hot bite early afternoon. Didn’t see another boat most of the day until we headed in.
The drop back thing is tough. We don’t get a lot of shots a billfish around here usually so when we do we get so excited it is hard to remember to drop it back instead of setting that drag right away. COngrats on your day!
