Sailboat Mooring

Ok, I am probably going to catch a lot of ■■■■■ on this one, but I have always been curious. The sailboats anchored up across from the City Marina and the boats now starting to multiply by the W.O. Thomas Boat Landing, do these boat owners pay a fee to anchor here or are they just avoididng the cost on paying to dock? And, is there any oversight or governing done on these vessels? I ask because 1 they seem to be growing in numbers and 2 some look like they are abandoned and shouldn’t even be on the water. When some eventually sink, seems like they sit on the bottom for months or even years before they are ever removed.

As far as the boats near the W.O. Thomas boat landing, there always seems to be at least one in the marsh grass and one boat is usually within a few feet of the boat dock at certain times…

A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.

My guess is that they are avoiding taxes, docking fees, ex-wives, and repo men.

I also wish they would do something about it.

It’s always the same exact sailboat at the WO landing that is in the grass or anchored where it is blocking the ramp/dock. I cross that bridge 4 times a day and keep track of where it is. The other three, while annoying, stay anchored and are somewhat out of the way.

Same thing I was thinking Hoof… Scoobie, I cross that bridge almost everyday too and the number of boats at WO has grown in the last year… week before last, there was some kind of barge looking homade houseboat anchored, the next time I went by, it was in the mud at the grass line…

The barge thingy is still there. The crusty old power boat is back in the grass again, it had been anchored in the middle of the river for the past few weeks after it came off anchor for the third time I believe.

I was looking at that “houseboat” the other day. Made me chuckle to myself. Talk about cheap rent. It’s probably 9’ x 5’ with a little outboard on the “porch.” I’m thinking some poor guy ran around on his wife/girlfriend and had to make do.

Haven’t seen that one up close yet… Most of the boats out there look like someone got tired of seeing them in their yard, so they tied them up out there so they wouldn’t have to look at them anymore…
