Sailfish 10/7/2010, Edisto Banks

Fished a nice eddy about 10 miles east of edisto banks. Had two sails hook up at about 9 am, one on blue/white ilander and the other on a williamson rubber ballyhoo. First time trying the fake ballyhoo so was pleasantly surprised. First sailfish for me as well as largest fish I’ve ever caught. Definitely a daymaker! No other strikes or knockdowns the rest of the day.

congrats on your first sailfish!

Well done. I’m still waiting on my first bill fish. Looking forward to it.

We have had excellent luck on the fake bally’s this year. Caught a double-header wahoo and four blackfins on the Williamson. They don’t wash out, but we do bring them in and spray them down with Berekly’s Gulp Spray every hour or so. Good going on your sailing fish.

Short grass and tight lines, make a man feel so fine!

Thanks - still wondering what I did right  I have read that the sailfish bite is stronger on the back of a cold front and sure enough it was blowing cold out of the NW the day we were out. Anyone know why this might make a difference to the sailfish?
