We are looking at purchasing a 2003-2005 Sailfish 266 or a Key West 268. We like each boat for different reasons. We will be wanting the best riding, offshore boat. Any comments or opinions from you guys to help us out? Thanks!
Go with the Sailfish 266 over the other.
What are your reasons though?
If that was you posting the same question on the other site. Replied with link, that has more info. Hope it helps.
Minu,
I have logged time on both boats. I would put the ride about the same and there are some things on the Key West I like better. But in the end it comes down to quality and for my 2 cents Sailfish wins.

I have a 268 Key West and looked at the Sailfish. Both are good boats, but they are definitely different running boats. The Key West is drier in my opinion, but is wider, so not quite as soft a landing, but better drift boat. I would buy the Key West again if that makes any difference.
PS it will be for sale by the way in about a month or two, wanting an Express…Sorry…couldn’t help it.
I’ve ridden in both and while I am slightly biased because I own a Sailfish, I’d have to say that the Sailfish has a little bit softer and better ride. Any CC can be a wet one, that’s why no matter what you do, get the curtain package for it. I don’t believe that either is “drier” in my opinion though. 15knts wind across the boat, no matter what boat it is, will cause spray with the potential of you getting wet.
Do yourself a favor and sea trial both. Take both of them out not just in the harbor but past the jetties and pay close attention to the sea conditions during the test run. It’ll help make your decision easier, I promise.
Good luck with which ever one you choose; both are great brands and I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with either one.

i know where a 268 KW is for sale, the bank is accepting a short sale, totally rigged with everything imaginable…
make a reasonable offer,i have a feeling someone will be getting a deal…
As of right now we are leaning towards a KW 268. Boat seems big with plenty of room and extra storage. We are doing a demo on it in the next day or two. I have looked at a couple of Sailfish 266’s, but they seemed bare and not taken care of very well. I have not ridden on one though and all I hear are good things. We have also been looking at the Sea Hunt 260. I guess we will see how we feel after the demo but as of right now, the KW seems to be on top…
Key West 211cc
if you dont look at gut wrenches boat you are doing yourself a huge disservice. trust me on that. there is not another KW like it on the east coast, and he is a motivated seller
Gut Wrench…PM sent.
Key West 211cc
If you are looking at a new Key West and a used Sailfish then new is the way to go. That way you can rig it out the way you will use the boat. I fish a Key West 268 and like you said there are positives and negatives with every boat. I will have to say that Key West stands by there product and if you have any problems they will quickly take care of them. Good Luck with your decision!

And yes, Gutwrench does have a beautiful boat. Don’t buy any boat without sea trialing though…
