I spent the last week and a half back packing around Mexico with a few friends and I made sure to stop by the Pacific coast for a day of offshore trolling. $250 USD later I had hired a 40’ Bertram with a crew of 3 for the day for trolling 15+ miles out in what they said was 2000 meters of water. We had a good time but the bite was not there because this was the off season for them (still fun for the price). The boat held up to 8 + crew but I only brought 2 with me so we had plenty of space. They had converted the main cabin into a discotec which was hilarious yet useful on slow days. They troll exclusively butterflied mullet there from what I can tell but it does work because I saw one clearly gut hooked sail at the dock being cleaned. They said that the roosterfish, tuna, dorado, and sails are still around this time of year but I will still wait until the winter to try again but It would cost at least twice as much. We were fishing in the calm right before the first of the outer bands of Hurricane Jimena so maybe that spooked the fish.
I will post a pic of how to clean a sailfish with a machete as soon as my camera comes back from Mexico.

Sorry for the delay. Here are some pictures of a gut hooked sail.
Almost forgot to add, we saw a 12’ boat (think old man and the sea; Hemingway) trolling for mahi in water 2 miles deep. Balls.
