How do ya’ll play it when Sailflow and Reefcast look great for your area and the Cape Fear to 31N forecast doesn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy about it?

you mean like it’s doing now for the weekend? yea, I hear ya…
wait another day… no sense worrying about it 96hrs+ out. Model forecast skill is much better inside 48hrs. That being said, for the layman its better to just defer to the NWS forecast out a few days and then sweat the details the day before.
My response is more in an effort to learn something as i am always open to be educated by the wiser.
To me it seems like looking at the cape fear forecast is a bit far from local waters however if that forecast holds true is it a sign of things to come in our area?
Reefcast shows a nice forecast as far north as I can see, i typically look at what its doing the day before i want to go out and the day after and look for the patterns of consistency.
For instance my plan is to head out sunday as seas appear to fall through the day sat and hold through monday night.
Again I am hear to learn an open to ■■■■■■■■.
Thanks all!

You have two ears and one mouth, science would say you should listen twice as much as you speak.
Sailflow and Stormsurf tended to be the most accurate last summer from my experience. NOAA was the worst.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

when yall look at sailflow are you using the pro version to get a forecast? when i look at the NWS marine forecast on sailflow it is currently calling for 3-6 feet with 10kt winds for sunday. i dont see how this is right when NOAA and reefcast both are calling for much calmer conditions in the same area. this may be a stupid question but i typically compare NOAA, reefcast, and the sailflow wind forecasts to make my predictions. always open to learn much like newbmeans stated
Check as many forecasts as you can. When they start matching up, you can put some confidence in it. The 48 hour remark is pretty well spot on.
Also what Salty said about StormSurf. The model will give you an animated look at how systems that move offshore well away from our area still have an effect on our ocean. They (StormSurf) are usually pretty close once you get within that 48 hour window.
If you’re riding in a small boat, you better pay even closer attention to wave direction vs. wind direction and speed.
Also check the “Savannah to Altamaha Sound 20-60nm” to the south of us, seems like the actual conditions are usually mixed between the two offshore forecasts.
