Soooo… Do you have to have an HMS to let a sail go…??? I quit buying those permits since this YFT’s went away.

Well, if you catch one and release it, I doubt there would be any issue… even if you break its bill and cut a hole in its side and gaff its eyeballs out… if you catch one and take it out of the water and gut it with a pocket knife and beat it with the frozen corpse of you neighbor’s cat, you most likely will not suffer any repricussions… if you catch one and duct tape a pound of C-4 and a waterproof timer to it so it goes back and blows up a school of them… you may very well never have to answer for it… if you catch one and then smoke a fat joint and do an 8 ball off its dried carcus… only those on the boat will know…

…but if you take it out of the water and take a pic of it, you are breaking the law… if you do not have an HMS permit and do it…you are breaking the law… if you have an HMS permit and keep one, but do not report it (unless in tournament), you reak the law…

In any case, if you want to break the law, do what you feel like you have to do… if you break the law and put proof on the internet… well then… deep down… you know what you are…

Extraordinarily well put Cracker!

It’s a minimal amount of $$ to purchase a permit.
You never know what you may catch…:wink:

I’d take the boat name off too… if you did not have an HMS permit, you are not allowed to fish for them and the Permit is based on boat name. I am just relaying the rules as I know them… you do whatever you want and I will not be upset either way…

Polly Wanna…

Who said he was fishing for them…I swear it is like a billfish is a vessel for the second coming. You can go fishing without an hms. Sails as bycatch ain’t gonna land any prison time or fines. To heck with the lovefest
… a billfish is a trash fish if you want something to eat…

If u billfish lovers think Guys like this are the problem, then you need to actually pay attention some more.

I could give a flying fuc k about those 2 sailfish… I was just telling him the rules. If you do not agree with the rules, then that is cool…

Q: Do I need a recreational permit to fish for or land tunas, sharks, swordfish, and/or bilfish?
A: Yes, vessel owners/operators who recreationally fish for or retain regulated Atlantic tunas (bluefin, yellowfin, bigeye, albacore, and skipjack), sharks, swordfish, and billfish in Atlantic Federal waters, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, must obtain an HMS Angling category permit or a HMS Charter/Headboat permit. However, General category vessels may fish recreationally for HMS so long as they are participating in a registered recreat

Ok, but HMS fines are pretty big and I am sure it wont be long til someone on here is paying one… I understand it has already happened actually… here I am trying to help people avoid a possible tangle with the Feds and in turn I get greif…

For as many times as people have tried to post the regs/rules…some just don’t listen.

I know that folks will continue to take billfish, mostly sails, out of the water to take pics…but to continue to post them is pure stupidity.

It’s great to educate someone! It’s horrible to harass the innocent! Gotta watch those stones one can skip of the water!

Long story short. If you catch a sailfish and take it out of the water for a picture, don’t put the picture on here. If you want to take it home, you need an HMS permit.

If your dumb enough to post a picture on here at all, you deserve what you get. There is always gonna be someone on here that does
not like it.
