Yeah boy, those salt ponds seem to be floundertown…

I feel like I need learn how use plastics in SW. Just this year learned how catch reds in topwater but would love learn how catch flounder and reds on plastics. Any specific pointers? Also, just bought some those jig heads, look too good not to work

FishingDuo, that would be hard to answer in a single post. All you need to know is buried in the search function on this site, but in general, I think people tend to fish plastics too fast. Try slowing it down. And mostly you need to feel the bite. Most people keep too much slack in their line while the lure is dropping. Keep your rod tip up and reel in the slack on the drop. The only time they will hit it 90%+ of the time will be on the drop. Keep moving and casting to structure, any thing that is different, and the fish will come. Best thing you can do is spend more time on the water. As PeaPod says, fish a lot and you will figure it out.

I got few spots that have produced fish, guess its time fish some those with artificials and see if can produce anything.

When fishing a new area, I will throw one of two plastics. If water is clear to 18", a z-man trout trick in mood ring color. If not clear, a gulp 5" jerk shad in sapphire shine or anchovy. Those two work universally. One you get a bite, try changing color and size and you might find a sweet spot for the day (it varies by day). I will sometimes find myself fishing too fast. When I have consciously slowed down, my catching improves.

Thank you very much. I’m gonna be targetting flounder and reds in a saltwater pond on military base. Has produced a lot of fish so should be able tune my presentation some there

Buy in bulk He**, Just post a photo of any Jig head other than a Trout Eye and Dave will give you some for, FREE

Dang, nice to know about that 10% discount. Might come in handy if I ever get the time to fish again.

That’s very nice indeed! I have had the best luck using a double rigged set up using a white curly tail grub. 90% seems to get the back grub.

When fishing salt ponds, I’ve found that fishing the flood gate (the ones I fish have em) on the incoming tide two hours before high and a short window of major action.

Scaled, scored, and deep fried whole! :stuck_out_tongue:
