Salt Pond Inshore Slam 5

So with this insane wind, I decided to hit up my go to pond. I know I know, its not tough. I caught the pond just as the tide started coming in. One cast and had plenty of haadens for the day. So I set up my cut bait on the bottom, cast a MM on a Cajun and hook up right away on a flounder, before I even get it to shore the other w/ cut bait bends over and peeeeeling drag. Set the drag a little tight so I could land the flounder, 20 inched at least… then proceed to fight the red, 20 minutes later a 39 inch red. calm down, set everything back up. As a bait the cut bait my Cajun goes under, peeling off drag, and my other rod bends over again… Fought what I thought was a red, only to find out that it was my biggest trout not caught in the gulf…28 inches!!! all the while fighting another red, landed it…did measure, well over 40. At this point I just stuck to one rod… set out some more haadens on the bottom, I lost count how many reds I pulled in, finally I have my longest fight of the day and it ends up being a black drum, 32 inches and FAT!! I couldn’t believe it. Last fish of the day, the gator that I was fending off with a stick all day bc he wanted my fish…couldn’t believe he ate my bait and got hooked. BEST part of the day besides the ridiculous amount/quality of fish was when a family of 4 walk up to the area I was fishing. Bait/blood/cast net/rods/knives…it looked like a murder scene… All fish released, that (**() gator didn’t get ANY. Sorry for the long post

Sounds like a great day. However, you should know by now, need pics for confirmation…

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

I don’t have an I phone, nor would I take my camera with this weather, I do know this by now… Believe what you want, I could’ve used some help out there today. Just trying to give some insight to fishing when your feeling lazy or your john boat can’t handle this weather.

Sounds like an awesome day bro, Salt ponds can be gold mines for quality fish. Glad to see someone getting some fishing done during this weather tho.

Wishin I was fishin.

wow man. I’ve only had one day like that ever. Those are great! Okay, so where exactly is this pond? hahaha…sounds like you’re doing better than the rest of us.

Wish I had a pond like that to play in! My golf course ponds have half pound bass :frowning:

You sure are truly blessed.

Yeah, I always catch big reds in there, flounder here and there, ladyfish in the summer. Never caught a black drum or a trout, that beast of a trout ate menhadden on the bottom, couldn’t believe it. The ponds are always good with these flood tides, they stack up and feast on all the bait

you don’t have to have an I phone to take pictures of fish you catch

What is classified as a salt pond, one that has a feeder creek to the river/ocean?

We do not rise to the occassion…but fall to the level of our training

If I caught a trout like that and couldn’t get a pic I think I would cry

where is this fabled salt pond, pray tell

They’re on almost every barrier island along the coast and some along the mainland. If you think anyone is going to name and give directions to the one they fish, you sir are an idiot.

i don’t need the name or directions, coordinates will suffice

I have the worst phone on earth and but did snap a quick pic of the trout (those interested). I guess I could forward it to my ladies iPhone and then go from there…not sure how to upload it. Hit up the pond super early today and it was slow, 3 reds between 25 and 38… Pole bent of more times than fish hooked up w/…loving these tides. I’ve been lazy as sh$&… Need to get back on a boat and do some real fishing, starting to feel guilty for cheating. On the issue of where these ponds are… :sunglasses: Best advice is to look for ponds near salt rivers, throw your cast net, and use WHATEVER you catch, they always want the freshy fresh bait!!!

Hence why i don’t have an iPhone, cant even figure out how to post, instead I posted the same thing 17 times… sorry boys.

Fred, that’s why sometimes I have to fish one pole at this specific pond. Basically had to set the drag a little tight and let it run, not hold the pole, hit or throw stuff in the pond to trick the gator…land the other fish then get the 2nd one in. Hate doing it bc it wears the Reds out. If the bite is on, then I fish one pole.
