Hey just curious. I am from the upstate as alot if you guys know and we do alot of trolling on the lakes up here. Do you guys doing any trolling on the rivers down in Charleston and if so what do you guys drift and troll for.
I built these Trolling Bars this week and wanna put them to test next week when i come down. I plan on building them and selling them soon…
Haven’t done it in years, but at times we used to troll grubs, shimmy shads, and rattletraps.
In fact, I knew people who fished that way 90+% of the time. Most of them trolled grubs, but a few used to slow troll live bait just slowly bumping it along the bottom. Get a bite, slow down and cast that area good…then start trolling again.
It’s best to know what structure and depth is along the banks you want to troll, and you will still get snagged, but you can cover a ton of water doing it. I found it to be a bit boring, but the guys who liked doing it usually caught a ton of fish.
I like your ingenuity, but, you best put a bungee cord on those rods and reels before they get yanked out your rod holders.
If you troll deep(planner/trolling weight on the drop offs where fish are holding{low tide)…or the banks at high…you might just catch a fush. Good luck.
I used to troll for trout with a friend of mine. He would out fish me two to one. He asked me to pick up a spool of line for him one time on my way to the ramp. He said to get 6lb test line. That was one of the big secrets. I would never think of using line that light. I would always use 12lb line. I found you catch a lot more fish trolling with lighter line.
