Saltwater ponds

I just read an article in S.C. Sportsman about fishing in saltwater ponds. Included were the ponds around Bear’s Island and Bennett’s Point in Colleton County. Have any of you tried these? I have a motorboat but at times prefer the quiet and convenience of a canoe. Any info will be appreciated.

Me and a bunch of other fisherman once got smoked in a tournament by a guy that fished out of a saltwater pond. They can hold some nice big fish.

I always wondered if there were fish in those ponds, from the road they look very shallow. I might just be tempted to stop and try it some time.

Those ponds at Bear Island are tidal and are very very shallow (like NO water at low tide) never seen
anyone fishing in them. Never seen any fish activity there either. I don’t think you can put canoes in them.

I dont know about those ponds but I have fished at a buddys salt water pond. It holds a lot of fish and some BIG ones. They seem to completly shut down after a good rain storm though.

All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.

There are a few private salt ponds around that area that hold some large flounder Fish the incoming by a lock with a double rigged white curly tail grub. From my experience it’s a short window of bite to nothing. I can’t think of any public acaess ponds around that area that would do you much good. ?? Probably better bank fishing a creek.

Have caught a few over slot reds in the big salt pond on parris island. You used to be able to put a boat in just no motor.

Is that pond open yet, or is it still closed?
