My friends and i go fishing on the saluda out near the zoo. I’m told there are stripers around hear but have yet to catch one. When do they show up and what works best for them. also is it better to fish from the bank or on a boat in the river

your wife thinks your at work, your boss thinks your sick, your buddy knows your fishing
Bank works fine, but its better in a boat. Try using Live Herring if you can and even trout (as long as you dont use more then 5 in one day.) If not then try top water plugs like Striper Delights or Brokeback Rebels…for under the water try jigs with white/red body. That’ll get you started. Dont plan to see them until at least May though. Lastly…if you want to find the best lures…either find the ones other fisherman have lost in the trees or rocks…or cut open the Stripers stomach…what you find use baits like that. God Bless, Coach B

CF, I ysed to live on Hummingbird Dr. in W Cola & would walk down behind the ballpark near Saluda Dr. to fish across from the zoo.It sounded like the Amazon @ 5 am w/ all the monkeys & tropical birds waking up.From Mother’s Day til July 4th seemed to be the best w/ the month of June being my favorite for big fish.Understand this was 20 yrs ago.Tackle was med sw spinning w/ 20lb line & 4 or 5" 3-hook, ice-blue rebels or rapalas.EM me sometime. It’ll be worth your while.

Colafisherman… I grew up on Cardinal Drive near Capt. Eddie, and he’s right on with what he told you. I can’t wait to get on the river some this season. Last year I stayed on the Lake most of the time, but no doubt I’m hitting the river more this year. Rumor has the fish not far below the 601 bridge so it won’t be long now. Hope to see ya’ll out there. God Bless, Brian

Colafish,
I am moving to Columbia next month and would love to chase these stripers with you. I have a wilderness Tarpon 140 yak. Shoot me an email if you would like to go sometime.
kloud,
sounds good. I would like to find some good spots in/around Cola. I am really looking forward to moving there,as it is close to the coast and has a lot of rivers and lakes around too. email me your info and lets go. I am realitivly new to kayak fishing too, but love it. I should be in Cola for good around the 1st-2nd week in May.
Tried the zoo yesterday. Only catfish. i was there evening till dark. I am inexperienced and was fishing from shore, so this doesnt mean they are not there. What is the best time of day to get them?
