PM sent. Never fished the Saluda, but spent a little time on the Hill.

If you are referring to the saluda below lake murray, they come up in the spring and leave at the end of summer.

no -im looking for info about the saluda above lake murray-cant remember the name of the landing -its below the buzzard roost down from lake greenwood- ive heard there are big fish going up certain times of the year - problem is the people that have told me this in the past can turn a minnow into a whale retelling the stories–but it does make sense that there would be big fish going up from murray to feed and spawn–dont plan on keeping any–just want to fight a good one in running water with snags and rocks everywhere

You’re probably referring to the Saluda River Resort. It’s between Hwy 121 (Higgins Bridge) and Hwy 395 (Kempson’s Bridge). I’ve seen folks fishing that area from now until the spring. I stay mostly below Kempson’s Bridge. I would assume the same tactics work—cut bait on bottom, slow trolling live baits and artificials, and casting the banks.

yep thats where im talking about–gonna get up there and pull some planers one day this weekend --where would be the closest place to buy herring to that landing?

There is not any water in the river this year! No rain! Hasent been for 2 yrs, In the past we have caught tons of good fish! toreup (2) PROPS and a foot and have not caught a dozen keeper fish this year pray for rain! Better luck next year, stay with clarks hill now I am!

thanks for the warning-drove over saluda a couple weeks back it looked thin but i run the edisto a good bit --havent been able to fish it at all this year because of lack of water–guess thats why im missing the moving water–we need rain bad but the biggest stripers ive ever caught came from the hill when it was around 13 ft low acouple years ago–guess they had less water to get away from me !!

Closest herring will be at George’s on the Prosperity side just of Hwy 391. Next closest will be Dooley’s on 378 all the way back to Lexington.

Talked with some guys yesterday at the Hdw. store in Laurens that said they rode by the below dam axcess below Greenwood the other day and there were a lot of cars in the parking lot!MY guess is the perch are feed on scraps that wash thru the dam usualy a lot of gulls there and a lot of Mex.Years ago there were a lot of 30-40 # fish caught off bank there. I used to keep a boat chained to a cable there, caught a lot of good fish on live bait(big crappie) this time of year!Try it and let us know how you do Good luck!

The resort used to keep herring. Large shiners work equally well. May want to call the resort and see what they have. 803-276-7917.
