happy bob…Last time I was there was before the backup dam was finished. At the time there was a cable that you could no longer cross and it is my understanding now you can’t even get that close.
I did not have a problem going up river on my 16’ AL Jon Boat. If I remember correctly you go up river… on the first rapid you follow the stream all the way on the left side and as soon as you clear the rapid you start working your way on the right side of the river… there is a small rapid up 1/2 a mile or so up river and you have to also follow the stream on the right hand side then back on the left and straight thru… Again we did not have a problem although we hit the prop a few times. Good luck.
Thanks for the info, Pezcado. Has any one been up there more recently? Thanks, Bob
Happy Bob, I have been fishing that area lately. How can I be of help?

Whaler Dave, I’ve been thinking of going upstream from Metts landing in my 14’ alum. v-hull & not beeing familier with the waters, I was just wondering how far up I could go and whether I could do it without tearing up my motor. I’ve heard horror stories, but no real help. Thanks
Happy Bob,
Your boat should be ok to head upstream from Metts Landing. You can only go about 200 yards give or take before you hit rapids. When entering that first set of rapids follow the flow of the water from the center of the river working your way over to the left side of the river. I have made this run about a dozen times now and hitting your prop is going to happen. I have a 9.9 that I tilt up to the first position and comit. If you get in the rapids and start to bail out of the idea of going up turn your boat around immediately to prevent from high siding on rocks. That happened to me on the first trip and we almost went swimming! I have seen some portage over to the right side of the river and drag there boat up. I guess it is about 40-50 yards to the pool above the rapids. Once you make it past that set jsut take your time while moving upstream. There are some huge boulders that sneak up on you. Let me know when you anticipate going and maybe you can follow us up. I hope this helps and that I haven’t been to confusing. How’s the 14 footer powered?

Whaler Dave,
Last year I went up to the first set of rapids you’re talking about & chickened out. My boat has a 20 hp. Evinrude. I’m not sure when I’ll try it, as I still have an “air cast” walking boot on my leg and am still on crutches from shattering my heel back in May. I’m going to the doctor on Friday and hopefully he will give me the OK to start walking again.(been testing it a little & it feels good) I will definatly take you up on the offer to follow you up some time. I really appreciate you offer. If nothing else we might meet for a cold one or two & talk fish. I’m relativly new to fishing around here, even though I’ve lived here for 7 yrs. Alright, I’m starting to ramble, so it’s time to quit. Thanks again, Bob
Hey Bob, did you fall off a contender?

Yes Charliehorse, I did fall off a Contender. Wonder how you knew that. Anyone you know?
I fish from that boat…it belongs to HOLT ON. (boat name and screen name on this site) Thats some fine work you did on that boat! Sorry about the fall, had to hurt.
Thanks for the compliment. Tell all your buddies. And yes, it did hurt, but I’m on the mend. Like I said, hopefully the Doc on Friday will let me start walking again. Thanks again, Bob
Happy Bob,
What kind of boat work do you do? My curiosity is getting the better of me!

Happy Bob,
I work in the boat business as well, for a local dealer. We should definitely get together for a beer or two. Maybe we can share some business!

Whaler Dave,
Give me a call. I’m always up for a couple of beers.
Here is a t-top & ski pylonI built a couple weeks ago.
