Saluda Wed Evening

Got in the water about 6:30 and the conditions looked perfect. A beautiful evening with the water running, but running slow enough to still be able to paddle upstream without too much effort.

Felt great to get back on the river for the first time this year. A little hot at first, but then, as the sun dropped, the wildlife came alive and as I paddled around casting I saw owls, a beaver, musktrats and Osprey, so I guess it was only fitting that I wound up with a skunk.

I tried jerk baits and later tied on a spook as it got close to dark. I was seeing some half dead live herring fluttering past me and just figured it was someone up river had dumped some bait as they were obviously the size of the Lake Murray baits being sold lately. Turns out there was a bunch of herring that got send down he river when they were testing the overflow gate at the spillway yesterday.

Maybe they were already full by the time I got there.

Try again next week
