Salvaged the Day

Came down from Charlotte Monday evening with plans of heading offshore in search of the ever-plentiful Carolina Gold. Got word about an hour after getting to the Lowcountry that the boat wasn’t ready. As such, trolling was now out of the question, but there was a chance for some bottom fishing. Went to be bummed but hopeful.

Got a call from my invite around 9:00 Tuesday morning with more bad news: boat still wasn’t ready, so there’d be no bottom fishing either.

Figured there was no sense in moping around, so I called and had my boat pulled, figuring I’d get in a few hours inshore. One problem-I’d brought NONE of my gear with me. Called the wife, explained the situation, got her blessing to purchase a new outfit (:smiley::smiley:) and headed to Haddrell’s to pick up some new “emergency” gear. Met up with my man Scott H., and walked out with a sweet new rig, a Symetre 3000 paired with a Wright and McGill 7’0 split-grip rod, as well as the basics for a day on the water.

Fished the Folly an hour before and an hour after low tide. Managed two fish, a 17-incher and an over-slot 24-incher. Beautiful day on the water, and a happy ending to a disappointing start.

FYI-for those of you who’ve never fished a Symetre, I HIGHLY recommend you do so. I have six Battles and like them very much, but I’d probably do all Symetres if I were to do it again. Lightweight, strong and super-smooth.

What’s up big man? I second your thoughts on the symetre. I have a handful of 3000’s and they are great reels. I like them better than the saros, but maybe my saros isn’t as new. Only time will tell. Glad you got a couple to bite, as we got skunked on the flat last night.

'Preciate it, Michael. Has the Electric Bill and crew made any trips yet this year? Tell Chad to holler at me…
