Sand and shell bottoms for gigging

Hello, new to charlestonfishing.com and the forums.

Had been gigging in the past on a friend’s boat, wanted to do some on my own on foot. Got an underwater light that works fairly well, and some waders. What I don’t have is the sand and shell bottoms in the inshore areas that will allow me to actually walk in the water a few feet deep to get it done - questioning whether I made a mistake here planning to do this on foot in the Charleston area. Went once in the Folly River and it went pretty poorly.

Are there navigation maps that show what type of bottom is in the inshore areas? I’ve looked around and tried google earth - not been productive and haven’t found a map that could show me where I might be able to walk without going past my knees in mud every several yards - nothing promising that looks white from the sky. Any suggestions about areas? Not asking about where you get your fish but where you’ve seen stretches of sand or shell bottoms that I could try out?

Im Not scared to tell ya. lol

I dont know of any sites that give out the bottom info on the water. I think the best way is to walk it and find your spot. Alhambra Hall in Mt. Pleasant is a great place to walk for flounder.

You can park at the end of Pitt street in MP and walk down the path. Climb down the wall and walk the flat out to the day marker. It is good bottom for walking all the way to the ICW and back towards Alhambra hall. walk around all the oyster rakes before the tide drops out and you should do ok.
