sandy island

can someone tell me how to get to sandy island down around murrells inlet area? its been a few years since I been there but I remember going down a creek that opened to a lagoon. I went with a friend and im not exactly sure if I remember. thanks for any help

Area in the red box in the picture is Sandy Island. Just scroll google maps up or down the Waccamaw until you see this. It’s not far from the reserve, if you know where that is, by water. There is the big beach area and the area you are referring to is literally a hole in the trees that leads into the canals you see in the red box. It goes back to a big swimming area.

It’s a neat place, I rode back their with the kids last week, first time I had been there in 15yrs.

Great pic…I remember when it was the place to be on Sundays…

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!

thanks guys

How’s the fishing in that area?
Fresh, Brackish?
Freshwater fish only, or are there any Redfish in this area?
Never been there, that’s why I’m asking.

Thanks!

just freshwater in there unless during an extensive drought.

Indian Lake used to be fun, but I am not sure if you can even get there anymore.

So in a very odd series of events, I came to own some land on Sandy Island. I can think of no real use for it. That said, because of this strange series of events, I’m curious to know if there is any fishing to be done out there? I’ve heard there is decent crappie fishing to be done in the winter months, but I’ll confess – I don’t know anything about catching crappie, especially not in a river (caught a few in lakes, but this is a whole new thing).

Anyone with tips, I greatly appreciate it.

Why were the canals dug? Plans to develop the island?
