Sanibel/Captiva FL

Thought I would post this to another forum to capture a larger crowd. Planning our third trip to Sanibel. I always take the kayaks and get some fishing in during the week but I always set up a charter during the trip for the kids (they enjoy reeling in the snook). It’s always hit or miss when picking a guide for an area that’s unfamiliar. I’ve had decent luck the past two times but if anyone is familiar with a good, kid friendly guide at Sanibel I would much appreciate the info.

Very family friendly, beautiful, expensive, and lots of traffic.

Try the beachs in th AM with the Kyak for Snook and Tarpon, usually very calm and you can spot them or drift livies or blind cast.

Last day on Sanibel today caught several snook off the beaches from 15-25 lbs. Here is one that the little man helped me with. Fishing off the beach is fantastic. Get some live shrimp and you can catch all of the whiting, jacks, trout and lady fish you can!!!

That’s awesome, wish those guys would go a little further north. Go Hokies.

You can always reach out to the bait shops for help with guides. The bait box or Whitley’s will be very helpful. We preferred going to Whitley’s to get shrimp they opened up at 5AM where bait box crawled in a 7AM. Hooked up to a couple of spinner sharks in surf yesterday. Good luck!

Whitney’s is the place to go. The guys there are very informative about what’s biting, when , how and where and will share their info with you. Always have live bait too… Go there every year with the wife. Try Clam Bayou with your kayak. Its a shallow canal that runs parallel to the ocean and dumps in the ocean near blind pass. You could park and put in at bowmans beach park. Lots of flats and mangroves. Caught nice reds and snook in there. Also try blind pass which is on the way to captiva. Reds, snook, mangrove snapper, flounder, trout and sheephead are some of the fish I have caught there… Guys fish for tarpon and sharks here. Snook are better at night in the summer. Also if you can get a spot , on the way to blind pass you will go over a very small bridge with a culvert on both sides. Caught some snook in there, but saw a kid use a whole pinfish for bait and threw it in the culvert. Pulled out a goliath grouper around 50lbs. Try the surf also, but don’t cast to far. The “trench” is only about 10 yards off the beach. Last june saw a guy catch a 20lb snook in thigh deep water. The guys at Whitney’s do charters. Haven’t used them, but he told me in the shop, he will put you on the fish. Good Luck!
