Santa came early this year!

Decided to jump on the weather window yesterday and pulled together a crew to put the last few grouper in the freezer for 2013. Well that part of the mission was not realized but we had an awesome day nevertheless. Started around 8:00 am…fishing, really? Could find no bait at the channel markers heading out. Stopped in 90’ to put a few tomtates in the live well. Word on the street was that “they” were catching tuna and wahoo in 130’ so we threw out some cedars and daisies in 120’. Spent 30 minutes or so hoping that tunny would somehow morph into something edible before they reached the boat…no such luck but fun to bend a rod on anyway. Marked a couple of new spots while trolling and dropped on them…well since I have never time-travelled before I’m not exactly sure how it works but we were transported back (or maybe forward!) to a time I definitely want to visit as often as the weather will allow. We caught 8 to 10 1/2 of these beautiful red fish with large scales and sorrowful eyes. Since we could find no pictures of them in any modern fish ID books we of course released them assuming them to be some type of never before seen red coelacanth. We did however, take some pictures in the hopes that you illustrious and ever helpful CF Posters would be able to ID them for us.

Aside from these creatures we managed to capture a bunch of the usual suspects: beeliners, pinkies, triggers, bsb and one decent gag. Then, as we were wrapping up our bottom game the water off our bow started exploding with something that was way too big for tunny and too small for dolphins…could it possibly be another long extin

Beautiful Reds :sunglasses: Too bad they are extinct. Great pictures! I’m with you on donkey wrestling, but it’s fun to watch:smiley:

Is that how you vent those things:smiley:

Nice Fish

Great post, and apparently a great day on the water.

man… xmas in SC… can’t beat it!
Beatiful ARS’s.

Nice day out on the water. Just hope you can find those ARS when (if) the Feds open the season in 2014.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Very nice, we see lots of huge ARS on our dives! Can’t beat SC this time of year.

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

Good stuff! Any chance you got a weight on the biggest ARS?

Thanks,
NN

Yeah Max, and I can’t believe you chose to work rather than fish on a Thursday!
