Is anyone familiar with the navigability of the Santee below the Hwy 52 bridge to the intercoastal. I was looking at it on Google Earth today and it looks mighty low in some places but I also don’t know what the conditions were when the pictures were taken. In case you were ever curious, it’s almost exactly 75 miles from the bridge to either Georgetown or McClellanville. I’m in a 19’ Center Console (not a bay boat). Thanks for the help.
I don’t know about down below 52 but, I can tell you about above 52. We use to run up to the 3 rocks on a jon boat with 25hp duck hunting. I would not try it in anything larger. Lots of rocks, logs, and sand bars. Water was normal at that time. Water is real low now too. I would not even think about it for a 19’center console.

gets skinny in a few places between 52 and 17-A / 41 - you could put in at Jamestown (17-A / 41) and be good to go…

No… There is a really shallow area a couple miles below Jamestown bridge. After that it isn’t much of a problem. Upriver of Jamestown up to US 52 there area a number of very shallow rock shoals. Did I mention plenty of submerged logs, too? It would take a very shallow draft boat to travel the distance you mentioned.

I’ve made the down and back from Pinopolas locks to CHS then Edisto 3 times and done fine in a 20 CC…There is one tricky area about ½ way to CHS that is marked with markers. My GPS did have fair info on the area as some of the shallow water can look like the channel.
Below the locks would be the Cooper River.

Exactly
There is really only one spot that gets skinny if you put in at Jamestown. Last time I was down there, it was good to go. It’s right where the powerline crosses.

YUP…It’s official, I’m an Idiot…
i thought below th locks it was the tail race and then the cooper river
I was afraid of that. Thought it might be a cool overnight trip. Jamestown might be a bit far to trailer for that short of a ride. Any other cool overnight ideas. I like to start in fresh water and end up somewhere along the coast.

why not try drifting down with the current instead of motoring. catch plenty of fish and see the sights. lots of good places. ashepoo river. combahee river. edisto river. all are good floats.

I’m not sure where you are wanting to start, but if you put in at Santee (close to I-95), it is a really nice ride through Lake Marion, follow the markers into Lake Moultrie, go through the Pinopolis Locks, then follow the Tail Race/Cooper River on into Chucktown harbor, eat there at Shem Creek just past the Yorktown. You got lots of scenery and plenty of little nooks to anchor in and nap.

Oh Yeah by the way…Stay your a$$ out of the Santee River unless you have a good supply of lower units laying around the garage!!!

We’ve done Marion to Charleston several times before and we’re looking for something a little different.
