Is there much of a striper bite in the Santee Lakes from now til end of April?
If so when, where, and how?
I have some success with them in the Fall and used to fish for them in June before the season was closed.
Thanks for your help?
as the water warms they make a migration from the deep- dam areas of both lakes up to the headwaters of the 2 rivers that feed them- the wateree and congaree. dnr has a biologist that is the striper guy and he can clue you in on locations at specific times during the migration up and down the rivers.

Thanks. How do I get in touch with him?
Fished the Broad River near Columbia several years back, herring where near Columbia about mid-April, Only spotted a few shorts that day, but Buddy told me I missed a good blitz a few weeks later.
4js & Bad Habit any word on contact or info on migration times?
Would love to chase em with a fly again this year, and possibly net some herring to use as turnaround bait. We got tons last time… And I suck with a cast net! Salted up the left overs for catfish bait later in the season.

Ask Your Daddy Why He’s Hooked on Killing!”
about 12 or so years ago we decided to go catfishing fishing the weekend of feb. 14th. 10 guys and not a dammed one of us realized it was valantines weekend. got down to the diversion canal and it was high and muddy. the catfish had to wait because it was a early spring that year and the stripers were moveing! at the mouth of the diversion canal you could look and see the flocks of gulls stageing about a mile out into the lower lake. when they got into the canal all you had to do was throw anyting into the water under the gull and you instantly hooked a striper, only problem all were short! they were still a couple of pounds each. the guy at the landing said the days prior to our trip it was the same thing but they were all keepers. just my luck! btw we all caught pure hell when we got home! and not a danged one of our wifes said a thing when we were planning the trip!

We used to kill them out of Pack’s in April but the fishery seemed to collapse 5 years ago or so. We were limiting out (15 fish 21 and up) by lunch time on most trips.
