Sat 5-15 report

Saturday morning vakayakangler, kayakfish, CHSbound and I launched into the upper Wando at first light. Low tide was 4:30 am and by 6:30 the water was WAAAAY UP higher than it should have been. The oyster bars were completely submerged, the low tide mud flats were flooded and the reds were way back in the creeks instead of out in the main channel.
vakayakfish was throwing a spoon fly, kayakanglera had a redfish magic, and I was tossing a Yozuri topwater. We all had blowups, but none of us hooked up.

We set up on a submerged bar with a nice cove and feeder creek. CHSbound tailed into the grass, vakayakangler explored the creek mouths and kayakfish was working grassy island while I patrolled the outer edge of the oysters.
I pulled a couple of little trout from 7-10 feet of water then CHSbound gives a hearty “FISH ON!”
Here is his first ever redfish

We worked that area for a while without any more fish coming to hand, so we crossed the river to work docks at mid tide. I managed to spook a bunch of fish at the grass edges and CHSbound picked up 2 more reds… one on a mud minnow, the other on a spinnerbait.

Nice fishing with you Garrett.

Who’s ready for a sleigh ride?
