Fished with two friends sat morning on the incoming tide. creek mouths around oysters. Fished mud minnows, finger mullet, and quartered blue crabs. tried throwing doa cals (copper penny color with chartreuse tail) but didnt even have a hit. I am somewhat new to fishing and have had trouble catching fish on artificials. any advice?? atleast im catching fish on live bait but at times I feel like it doesnt take skill. Just throw it out there and let it sit. all fish caught on crabs sitting on the bottom. 3 reds(23, 18, and 20 in)all released. also two sharks that were a fun fight on light tackle. forgot the sun screen and got fried. wont make that mistake again. Cant wait till next weekend to get back out there
Artificial lures will work better in the fall/winter best, because there is very little bait in the water.
You need some PFG shirts and pants! They are vented so they keep you cool and keep the sun from burning you.
“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman
For artificials-use gulp shrimp or minnows and real it in slow. Take what you think is slow and real it in twice as slow! Gently ■■■■■ the rod up and make about 1 revolution with the reel. Repeat until you feel a strike. Remember most jigheads aren’t circle hooks so should set the hook upon the strike (you prob do it naturally). You can also buy zman minnows and coat them in procure. Or just go to a tackle shop and ask questions!
