baitman, Likka Logga, contender1 and I headed out early from Wappoo Sat for the red snappa mini season…first off we were greeted at the ramp by 500 flats boats fishing some tournament…loudspeaker blaring, music thumping, generally hogging up the launch as well as the docks…pain in the ass getting through that crowd…me thinks enough noise complaints will roll in to prevent THAT from happening again…
we pushed on out and took too long to find bait, but with 4-5 dozen we headed out…2 pee stops and 82 waves over the bow later we stopped in 100’ of water and began picking up every AJ within a 20 mile radius…some were pushing at least 50-60 internet pounds…Likka Logga couldn’t wait to get the next one hooked and was completely satisfied with catching this most annoying of fish in the sea…moved around a few times then finally ended up anchoring…I was luck to catch the scamp of the day (my first grouper)…internet weight was prolly 25lbs…Likka Logga snatched the only red snapper of the day at around 8-10lbs then we picked at the footballs and a few BSBs…8oz of weight was not hardly enough to stay on the bottom and with the wind blowing opposite the current it made for some tanglation-nation and frustration…overall a good, safe day on the water…it was wet all day with the rain and the spray but I’m ready to do it again…just get the GPS fixed first…
As usual, an entertaining post (as if he could post anything else). Nice fish even if it wasn’t a lot of them. So, for actual weight do we divide by 2, 3, what? Love the boat name.

Yes I was camera shy, or perhaps too dam wet to care about pics as I beleive it was every wave over da bow on the way home. I detest a NE! Snotty day but fun time, excellent crew, and some great eats. Bonzo’s Scamp was a stud and perhaps Likka can come up with a YETI off the EARS (Endagered Atlatic Red Snapper) rack.
On another note…when is Charleston County or DNR going to make it illegal to tie up to the launch ramp dock except to launch or retrieve. I had to jump over several boat to get on the Eager Beaver after parking the truck. Not overly safe in the dark with a strong ebbing tide. Perhaps if I had tracked some dog mess on my shoes when doing it the Oakley Guys would have seen the issue they were causing, most everyone seemed oblivous to the inconvenience. Also if I lived on the cut I would have called the cops over that loud speaker at 5 am. We could not even hear well enough to know if the motors cranked on the boat after backing down.
You could sweep the floor with that broomtail. Nice
I wish I could have enjoyed catching it Cracker...after reeling up 5 consecutive AJs this one felt the same for the first 30' then it was just kinda dead weight...I think Likka commented that my AJ had stopped making runs and maybe it wasn't an AJ after all...get it to the surface, see it is ALL brown then Likka just grabs the leader and slings him in the boat...I didn't even get to try to knock it off the line before he had it in the floorboard, hook out, stuffing it in my arms and taking pictures...I feel a little cheated...
It had bin fun! To bad i stull kant heer nutin do to all da wata stull in me eers! i ain neber seen no hanz lik dat on no utter man befo! likka’s hanz mus hab bin swole up from dem reef donkees! Continder, i tol Boz i shood hab jus puled up an push dem lil bateau’s out da way fo yoo to git on da bote. But i bin scared dat one of dem dare pusshy poley tings might hab pu a hole in me bote. Hell, i was wondering if day wuld ebin moov win i been fo bak down off da traler!!
Ha! That sounds about right! Also, Bonzo, we have to work on your terminology a bit. Those aren't footballs. Those are what the commercial guys call "candy bars"...

PS, I can’t see the first two pictures…
I think the pics of the scamp speak for themselves…
the vermillion reminded me of those little plastic footballs the cheerleaders used to throw in the stands during the game…
first two pics are very dark, but you might be able to make out some of the logos on the guys’ shirts…obviously our shirts didn’t have enough logos on them…these were the tournament guys crowding the ramp and floater out…
